Holiday Weekend Fun Begins at the Huntington Beach Surf Classic

The third edition of the Huntington Beach Surf Classic kicked off today at the beautiful Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center. The Equestrian Center is set on a gorgeous 25 acres in Orange County and is home to over 400 horses with many trainers and multiple disciplines. The 2015 Huntington Beach Surf Classic is the first of two of the West Palms Events’ shows in Huntington Beach this Summer! The series has even been featured in the latest edition of the Chronicle of the Horse’s UnTacked as a destination showcation for your  Summer  travel!

 

Rebecca Bruce wins the 1.20M at the Huntington Beach Surf Classic

Spectators and competitors were treated to beautiful skies and beach breezes throughout the day to begin the busy week of competition. The Independence Day week is off to a great start for many riders! Justine Makoff kicked off the week with two blues, one in the 1.00m jumpers and another in the 1.10m jumpers! The 1.20m jumpers was taken by Rebecca Bruce and Stacy 6 and Darby Shattuck and Canalanto took the 1.20m Modified Jr/Am Jumpers. Sophie St. Clair and Ottavia Des Hayettes claimed the victory in the 1.30m Low Jr/Ao Jumpers, with Madison Bradshaw and her Katina 12 taking the 1.30m jumper class, and the 1.40m jumper class was taken by Mark Watring on his mount Balyon.

Over in the hunter arena, Jamie Taylor had a spectacular day, winning the First Year Green Working Hunter, the Performance Working Hunter 3’3! Peter Lombardo also had a wonderful first day, taking the First Year Green Hunter U/S, the Conformation Model and U/S, Performance Working Hunter 3’3 U/S, Pre-Green Working Hunter 3’/3’3, and Low Working Hunter. Peter could not outdo Stirling Kincannon in the second Low Working Hunter or the Low Working Hunter U/S, though! She took first in both classes! Rebecca Bruce also had a great day, taking all three Baby Green Working Hunter Classes and the Training Working Hunter! Congratulations to all!

This week will feature some exciting events starting with the $2,500 Grand Prix Hunter Derby and the $25,000 GGT Footing Grand Prix. Come shop, mix and mingle before the Grand Prix kicks off at 12:00 on Saturday with a luncheon sponsored by Elvenstar Riding Academy! Don’t miss it! A reminder that there will be no competition on Sunday, however, after the show Saturday be sure to catch the fireworks off the Huntington Beach Pier!
