Inaugural LA Equestrian Festival a Success

Gorgeous weather, exciting classes and numerous facility improvements made our inaugural LA Equestrian Festival a show to remember! Highlights of this wonderful event included Kristin Hardin’s amazing first and third ribbons in the S&S Bank Card Systems Los Angeles Grand Prix on Saturday, and Michael Leon’s well-deserved win in the USHJA National Hunter Derby on Friday.

On Friday, Skip Bailey’s beautiful Derby course took riders on a flowing, forward route throughout the Large Oval. Michael Leon piloted his own Nil Du Buffant Rouge to the win, with Fiona Sewell aboard Karl Ernst taking second in their first Hunter Derby ever, and Kristin Hardin earning third for a lovely round on  Nicole Teague’s Caruso’s Barichello Z.

Saturday saw numerous top riders compete in the S&S Bank Card Systems Los Angeles Grand Prix, but it was Kristin Hardin and the inimitable Bert who bested the field with a blazing fast jump off effort to secure the blue. Second went to Kevin Winkel aboard his partner Osophia, and third saw Kristin Hardin back for the yellow on Aran.  Skip Bailey was the course designer for the Grand Prix as well, and his challenging course tested riders at numerous points around the track.

Hardin not only placed first, but also received the Bobby Drennan Perpetual Trophy, presented on Bobby’s behalf by his mother, Aurora Drennan, and his sister Kathy Biagi.

West Palms Events would like to thank all our incredible sponsors, and extend a special thank you and recognition to our sponsor LA Saddlery. LA Saddlery donated $5,000 worth of LA Saddlery Gift Certificates to the top 8 riders in the Grand Prix, and has worked tirelessly to support LA Equestrian Festival.

“We would like to thank everyone who made this show such a huge success, and look forward to an even bigger event here at the Equestrian Center in 2017,” Danielle Ballard of West Palms Events commented. “This was a great start, and we are looking at ways to improve and enhance the event for next year.”
