Junior/Amateur Riders Take Center Stage at West Palms Fall Series

Flintridge, Sacramento and Del Mar host Junior/Amateur Championships

(Del Mar, CA) – The following is a summary of special championship classes for junior/amateurs presented by West Palms Events that will take place during the fall of 2013. The Flintridge Autumn Classic, the Sacramento International and the Del Mar International will be featuring these special classes. See details below regarding individual shows and classes.

West Palms Events Fall Series Special Classes:

The Flintridge Autumn Classic Horse Show
September 26-29, 2013
1. The Flintridge Amateur Equitation Championship
Presented by Katherine Cosmetics

This championship is a 3 phase competition held over 2 days.
This class open to amateur members of USEF or Equine Canada. The same horse must be used in all phases of the event – No Exceptions. Only one rider per horse, unless the judge requests a change. Boots and conservative colored bandages are permitted in both phases.
Day 1
Hunter Phase: To be shown over a minimum of 8 jumps at 3′. A numerical score will be given.
Day 2
Equitation Phase: To be shown over a minimum of 10 jumps at 3′. The judge will give a numerical score for each competitor’s round. Scores from the first phase will determine the order of go in the second phase. The highest scores will return last. The top three riders will return for additional testing at the conclusion of the second round. The course for the work off will be posted prior to round II.

The Sacramento International Horse Show
Welcome Week: September 24-29, 2013
1. The SIHS/NorCal Equitation Championship
Open to junior and amateur members of USEF or Equine Canada that have placed in the top 8 in an equitation class in which the fence height is at least 3’3″.
Three Phase Competition. Riders must compete in all phases in order for the overall score to count.
1. Hunter Phase – To be shown over a minimum of 8 jumps at 3’3″. The course to be a straight forward hunter course consisting of natural jumps, including a combination, hunter lines, and a long approach to a single jump.
2. Jumper Phase – The course should be of the type, typically used in a High Junior Jumper competition. To be shown over a minimum of 10 jumps at (3’3″). A minimum of two double or one triple combination are required.
3. Third Phase – The scores from the Hunter & Jumper Phases will be added together to determine the four (4) riders who will participate in the Third Phase. The combined score will determine the order of go, with the highest scoring rider competing last.

2. The USHJA Children’s/Adult Amateur Jumper Championships Southwest

3. SIHS Team Championships (1.20M)
This 1.20m championship event will be run over 3 days and again will feature an Individual Championship as well as a Team Championship. 11 Teams have been invited from all over the Western States and Canada.

Congratulations to previous winners, Team Alberta for winning the Team competition and to Jenna Powell from Team Oregon for winning the Individual event! Thank you to Stone Ridge and the Chad family for their generous support of this event.

The Del Mar International Horse Show
October 23-27, 2013
1. PCHA/Equine Insurance Children’s/Adult Hunter Championships
Open to the top 60 Child/Adult Amateur horse/rider combinations, including ties, from the PCHA Children’s/Adult Amateur Hunter Standings as of Monday September 16, 2013.
