events, including the USHJA National Hunter Derby Presented by Asuncion Valley Farms and the LA Saddlery Grand Prix.
Friday afternoon kicked off with a Complimentary Wine Tasting and hors d’oeuvres in the West Palms Lounge. The tastings featured CaliPaso Winery,Sculpterra Winery and Sculpture Garden, Eberle Winery and Vina Robles Vineyards and Winery. Exhibitors enjoyed the tasting, delicious food and the USHJA Grand Prix Hunter Derby Presented by Asuncion Valley Farms.
The Hunter Derby featured 35 starters in a beautiful course created by course designer John Manning. It presented the riders with multiple tests, including natural obstacles from our friends at Twin Rivers Ranch . The competition was impressive, with talented riders such as Peter Lombardo, Hugh Mutch, Jamie Taylor, Amy Self and up and coming talented young riders including Clea Caddell.
Only a few horses batted an eye at the solid derby jumps in Round 1, however, many had difficulty at the split rail fence that lead to a bending line to a two stride on the rail in front of the judges booth. The top 12 came back for their handy round, tightening up their tracks and showing off inside turns, competing for the top prize.

In the end, Peter Lombardo and Janie Andrew’s Tache Rouge topped the class with an impeccable handy round, Peter also came in third on Janie Andrew’s Ante Up. Hugh Mutch and Brunswick, owned by Airlie LLC took home second place with a lovely handy round.
Thank you so much to Asuncion Valley Farms and Lori Johnston on your continued support and sponsorship of the Central California Horse Show Series!
We look forward to seeing these competitors and many more in next week’s USHJA International Hunter Derby Presented by Cross Creek Farm!

It was a blustery Saturday at the Paso Robles Horse Park, however, that did not deter a great crowd from covering the Turf Club Berm in advance of the LA SaddleryGrand Prix and a busy VIP Dinner Sponsored by Equiline America! Thank you so much to LA Saddlery and Equiline America on their support of tonight’s event!

The evening kicked off with our Leadline, Style of Riding Awards Sponsored by Shady Lane Farm and a very special presentation with Harriet Landrum. We were excited to present Harriet Landrum with a Perpetual Trophy to honor the incredible work she has done for the sport and industry and a special trophy, designed by Linda Starkman, for her to take home! Thank you so much for joining us tonight!
“It was very special to me to present Harriet with the Harriet Landrum Perpetual Trophy,” said Dale Harvey of West Palms Events. “She has done so much for the sport, it was nice to be able to honor her with the trophy and having the ability to host her at the LA Saddlery Grand Prix was a treat for everyone.”

The LA Saddlery Grand Prix course was designed by renowned course designer Werner Deeg of Germany, and utilized every inch of the large Fairway Field Grand Prix arena. The course included a triple combination to a line across the long diagonal, with a tight roll back turn to a triply bar line to an oxer on the rail at the bustling VIP tent.
Guy Thomas and Jonkheer Z kicked off the class with a beautiful, clean round, setting the bar high for the next 27 horse and rider pairs. Another 12 teams tried the course before a second clean round was completed. Kristin Hardin and Firestone S put up a clean round to challenge Thomas and Jonkheer Z to a jump off! Immediately following Hardin, Alicia Foster and Zubliem crossed the finish line moving onto the jump off. After Foster, we saw Lindsay Archer and Camerone and Jeff Fields and Kiwi Iron Mark ride exceptional rounds to advance to the jump off.

The five horse jump off couldn’t have been more exciting with impressive horses and riders battling for the top position. Thomas and Jonkheer Z came in to the arena and again rode a clean and tidy round, in a time of 46.46. Next in was Hardin and Firestone S, with a clean round, but not fast enough to move ahead of Thomas with a time of 47.80. Third up was Foster and Zubliem with an unfortunate rail at fence 6 and a time of 48.08. Down to the final two, Field and Archer knew they needed a clean round faster than Thomas to take the lead! Archer and Camerone held a tight track and moved up when allowed, racing through the finish line with a clean jump off and a smoking time of 44.82 to move into first! Fields was up for the challenge, with a similar track and pace, coming in second by only two hundredths of a second in a time of 44.84!

Archer and Camerone took home the blue in the Oak Tree Grand Prix here at the Horse Park during the Central California Oak Tree Classic on November 7, 2015. That win was not only Archer’s first Grand Prix win with her then new partner Camerone, but her very first Grand Prix win of her career. Tonight’s Grand Prix was a very exciting class for the competitors, exhibitors and spectators on a gorgeous afternoon at the Paso Robles Horse Park! Congratulations to Archer and Camerone on their second win here at the Horse Park!
“Tonight’s win was so special, having won my first Grand Prix here six months ago,” said Archer. “I am so grateful to have the ride on such a special horse. Endless thanks to Catherine Harvey and family for their continued support. Thank you to our entire team at Shady Lane Farm and Rhys Farms for all that they do day in and day out to keep the horses healthy, fresh and happy. And one more thank you to Dale Harvey and Linda Starkman for offering us such an amazing venue and competition here on the West Coast! We are truly grateful for all!”
