Porter Takes the Win at Huntington Beach GGT Grand Prix

Artes Holds on to lead in GGT Grand Prix Series

(Huntington Beach, CA) – A summary of the events at the Huntington Beach Surf Classic.

The third event in the GGT Grand Prix Series drew a great crowd, and the riders met the challenge. With 7 clear rounds moving into the jump off, Mandy Porter claimed the victory in the $25,000 GGT Grand Prix of Huntington Beach with the only double clear ride aboard Con Capilot. Mandy commented, “This is the first show back for this horse since he was hurt in Thermal so I’m really, really happy with him. It was a really good class for him to make his come back.”

Lane Clarke finished in a close second on Kiss The Sky after pulling the last rail in the jump off.

The Huntington Beach Surf Classic hosted the third class of the 2013 Grand Prix Hunter Derby Series and the class did not disappoint. Peter Lombardo, riding three mounts, proved to be a strong competitor, placing at the top of the class by several points, winning both the 1st and 3rd prizes.

Peter commented, “I love the Grand Prix Hunter Derby class, and the element of speed which I think is interesting for a hunter rider to consider. Not only do you have to be smooth and accurate, but you have to also move forward. This series is a great addition.”

Taking an early lead in the first round, Laura Wasserman rode for the win in the $1,000 Black Star Equestrian Amateur Owner Hunter Classic aboard Back In The Game.

The Huntington Beach Surf Classic is followed by the Huntington Beach Summer Classic, August 8 – 11 and the Beach Cities County Show, August 31 – September 1, 2013. At this year’s Huntington Beach Summer Series shows horses and riders will be competing on newly installed GGT Footing, the premier footing solution available today. Five arenas at the Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center have been redone with GGT Footing.

GGT is a combination of synthetic felt and polyester fibers. Mixed with sand GGT helps to bind up the footing providing cushion, traction, and shear support. GGT Footing is the Official Provider to all WPEM Events.

The $260,000 GGT Grand Prix Series is designed to provide an opportunity for riders to compete at the 1.40m level for year-end awards and prizes.
