The Central California Memorial Day Classic Will Host a Zone 10 North American Junior Young Rider Championship Selection Trial at the Paso Robles Horse Park

West Palms Events and the Paso Robles Horse Park have been selected by the USHJA Zone 10 Jumper Committee to host a NAJYRC Selection Trial at the Central California Memorial Day Classic this May.
Many of today’s top riders including Greg Best, Karen O’Connor, Chris Kappler and McLain Ward have participated in the NAJYRC as young equestrians, and this program gives riders age 14 – 21 the chance to experience FEI competition as they vie for team and individual medals. The NAJYRC began as an eventing challenge for young riders between the US and Canada in 1974. Dressage was added in 1981, show jumping in 1982, reining in 2008, endurance in 2011 and this year, para-dressage will join the roster of disciplines.  The competition is run under the rules of the FEI and is the premier equestrian competition for junior and young riders held in North America.

There are two separate jumping divisions: Juniors, age 14 – 18, who will jump a 1.40M course, and Young Riders, age 16 – 21, who are expected to compete on a 1.50M track.
The Central California Memorial Day Classic will host a leg of the Zone 10 jumping selection trials, one of only four California venues selected by the USHJA Zone 10 Jumper Committee to host these events.
“We are honored to have been selected to host a NAJYRC Selection Trial,” commented Dale Harvey of West Palms Events. “It is so important to support and encourage our young riders in every way possible. The equestrians competing today in the NAJYRC will be tomorrow’s Olympic competitors and professionals, and I am thrilled that the Paso Robles Horse Park and West Palms Events will be a part of this year’s championship.”
